What Is Reverse Osmosis?
It’s Nature’s Way…
What is reverse osmosis? Regular osmosis is a naturally occurring phenomenon that happens when the molecules of any solvent go through semipermeable membrane from a less concentrated solution to a more concentrated solution. This is nature’s way of achieving balance, in this instance, of concentrations. Osmosis happens every day – around you and inside you. It’s how plants absorb water from soil, and how your kidneys absorb water from your blood.
Now Lay Down Flip It and Reverse It
In order to move a more concentrated solution to a less concentrated one something different is needed. Whereas osmosis occurs naturally, energy is needed for this process. A reverse osmosis membrane acts as the opposite of a membrane that allows no liquid and only vapor. Conversely, an RO membrane allows liquid to pass through but blocks the majority of dissolved salts, organics, bacteria and pyrogens – with a good push of energy and pressure. This allows the water to desalinate, demineralize and deionize.
Pump It Up
Two types of water are produced as a result of the reverse osmosis process. Permeate water is the cleaner, less salient water that goes to your tap. The reject water has a high concentration of sodium and does not find its way through your home. Culligan’s [dealer-url page=”product-reverse-osmosis”] reverse osmosis system trap contaminants and wash them away with a process of cross-filtration, which sweeps contaminant buildup away from the membrane.
Respect the Process
Raw tap water runs through a sediment filter that gets rid of solids, then goes through a carbon filter (much like store-bought pitchers and faucet-mount devices) that takes care of 98% of the chlorine, along with other organic chemicals, before the reverse osmosis process that takes 99% of dissolved contaminants. This water is stored in a reservoir tank, and to top it off, runs through a polishing filter located on your sink faucet or refrigerator tap and into your Indio home.
Countertop Destruction Not Required
The Culligan® ClearLink PRO™ is our newest reverse osmosis drinking system accessory. Eliminate the need to drill countertops with this easy-to-setup tool. It also eliminates the need for extra faucets and fixtures, and its trendy design in multiple finishes allows you to compliment nearly any of today’s modern kitchen décor.
No Replaceable Filters or Bottled Water…Forever!
Typical carbon filters in pitchers and faucet mount types don’t take care of everything. Fluoride, certain bacteria and viruses, and lead contaminants can make their way through. Most bottled water goes through the reverse osmosis process. With a Culligan reverse osmosis filter, you’ll have a bottled water company under your sink, without the hassle of paying extra money, carrying cases out of the grocery store and taking up valuable refrigerator space!
